Curodont® in Leander
Modern dentistry offers new and innovative treatments that our dentists use to help preserve children’s teeth. Learning more about these treatments helps you prepare for your child’s visit to our kid-friendly dental clinic.
Plan for Minimally Invasive Enamel Regeneration
In the pediatric dentistry field, our team focuses on preserving healthy tooth structure when it's possible. Curodont® makes it possible to address early decay using minimally invasive techniques. We can often use these evidence-based treatments before traditional fillings are necessary.
Our approach at Austin Children's Dentistry in Leander emphasizes early intervention using biologic dentistry methods. We love knowing that our conservative approach to cavity management helps children maintain healthier natural tooth structure when it's appropriate.
What is Curodont®?
Curodont® Repair is an advanced type of bio-inspired treatment that supports natural enamel regeneration by forming new hydroxyapatite crystals. Keep in mind that this type of treatment is designed to work in early non-cavitated enamel lesions.
Using peptide technology, Corodont® is able to penetrate porous enamel lesions. Once it enters the enamel, it begins to create a scaffold that supports mineral regeneration under the tooth surface and throughout the depth of the lesion replacing it with natural tooth structure.
While fluoride is still effective for strengthening the outer layer of teeth, Curodont® promotes remineralization of weakened enamel on a deeper level. Since it uses a regenerative mechanism, Curodont® is not a traditional filling material, it is a painless regeneration of the natural tooth structure.
An easy way to look at this is to consider how this treatment doesn’t replace missing tooth structure. Instead, it supports the tooth’s natural repair processes before a cavity actually develops.
Understanding White Spot Lesions & Orthodontic Decalcification
We use Curodont® to provide these benefits:
- Addressing white spot lesions
- Helping early enamel lesions
- Correcting orthodontic decalcification near braces
- Aiding patients with a high risk of cavities
- Treating anxious or young children
- Offering patients minimally invasive treatment options
A white spot lesion forms when minerals are lost in dental enamel from acid exposure, plaque and challenges with cleaning around braces. These lesions are the earliest stage of tooth enamel breakdown. They can eventually turn into visible cavities and tooth decay if they are left untreated.
Curodont® offers a way for us to provide these services:
- Choose a needle-free treatment option for early demineralization
- Offer a drill-free approach to halting early tooth decay
- Select a non-invasive filling alternative in ideal cases
- Find an aesthetic solution or noticeable white spot lesions
- Pick a conservative treatment for post-orthodontic issues with decalcification
What Can I Expect to Happen During SDF and Corodont® Treatment?
Our dentist will carefully clean and isolate the tooth that they plan to treat. Since the treatment is minimally invasive, there is no need to spend extra time using injections for anesthesia or filling, it takes couple minutes and can be completed at the same cleaning visit.
Once the dentist applies the solution, it diffuses into the targeted enamel lesion where it supports remineralization deep within the tooth.
We love knowing that most children tolerate this type of treatment well, especially since it is quick, non-invasive and comfortable.
